A ballpoint is a pen that uses a small rotary ball made of steel, brass, or tungsten carbide to distribute the ink as you type. All pre-ball pens use aqueous black ink which flows through the pen in a capillary motion.
That pen is what the world has been waiting for! The epicenter of the pen is, of course, a ball.
These balls act as a buffer between the material you're writing on and the quick-drying ink on the pen. The ball rotates freely and curls the ink as it continues to be fed from the ink tank.
The ball is held in place with the gap between the ink tank and paper. and even though it's cramped, there's still plenty of room to rotate as you type. As the pen moves over the paper, the ball rotates and gravity pushes the ink into the tank and onto the ball, where it is transported to the paper.
