Garbage Disposal Repair and Installation

Garbage Disposal Repair and Installation

If your garbage disposal is not performing the way it should, it may be time for a repair. There are a few things you can do to try and fix your garbage disposal before calling a professional. Here are some tips:

1. Check the water supply: Make sure there is enough water coming into the garbage disposal. Garbage disposals need at least 1-1/2 gallons of water per minute to operate properly. If the water isn’t flowing into the disposal, you may need to adjust the plumbing connections or replace the sink drain.

2. Check the dishwasher drain connection: If the dishwasher is draining slowly or not at all, it may be connected to the Garbage Disposal Indirectly   through the drain pipe. Disconnect both pipes and check for any blockages. If there are none, you will need to replace the dishwasher drain hose or connect it directly to the dishwasher inlet.

3. Check for worn gears: The gears inside a garbage disposal can wear down over time, causing it to stop working correctly. If you notice that one of the gears is noticeably loose, try replacing it as soon as possible. Worn gears can cause debris and food to get stuck in the pipes. Replacing the garbage disposal is a very simple job and requires only basic household tools such as wrenches and pliers.

4. Replace the switch: Over time, the plastic switch that activates the garbage disposal can become loose and worn out. If you notice that the switch is sticking or not working properly, replace it immediately to avoid any accidents.
